School will be starting tomorrow. This week we will be going 8 to 3. Starting next week we will be going 8 to 2. We will be going 8 to 2 in order for our teachers to contact their quarantined students from 2 to 3:15. This will help those students stay on track for them to have a smooth transition when they return off of quarantine. Students will receive a normal day at school with PE and lunch. We are hoping our quarantine numbers will go down as time goes on and we can get back to our regular 8 to 3 day. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the school.

Parents: If your student is unable to begin school tomorrow due to a quarantine, it is very important to notify the school ASAP so we can ensure work is prepared for the student to complete at home.

With the recent mandate by the Governor we are releasing our Mask Plan for the school year. It is a 3 Phase Plan. We were hoping to start out in Phase 1, but we are going to start out in Phase 3 because of the mask mandate. The School Board, Administration, and Staff may not agree with the Governors decision on masks. However, we do have a responsibility to look out for the well being and health of our students, school, and community. This means we have to follow mandates from the Governor as well as other health and educational organizations. If we do not follow them, the school, as well as individuals could be held liable. That being said, we will not have one student at Thompsonville who will be required to wear their mask for the whole day. We will have mask breaks built into the schedule and teachers will be encouraged to get their kids outside and in areas large enough to safely social distance to be able to take their masks off. We are all in this together and we are still hoping for a more normal year than last year. We have no plans to do half days, other than our normally scheduled half days. To our knowledge we will be having sports and as of now, no limitations on who can come watch. If the sports are indoors then the players and spectators will be required to wear a mask. If the sports are outside then no masks will be required. We are hoping to be able to do concessions and everything at games like normal. We are still hopeful that this variant of COVID will run its course quicker than the last one and we will be able to move to Phase 2 or Phase 1 sooner rather than later. We already have students and staff who will not be able to start the school year on time because they are either positive with the virus or have to quarantine. So please have a plan in place in case your student will need to quarantine at some point during the year. Please read the Mask Plan and if you have any questions, contact the school. Please, also remember that this is a mandate that we may not agree with, but we have to follow.

We were hoping to release our back to school plans for masks today. However, with the recent guidance from the CDC and IDPH we are going to hold off until August 6th to get that out. We will be discussing with our school insurance provider and our school attorney what will be our best options for the masks. This is just for the mask portion of our return to school plan. We are still planning on having full day attendance, 8 to 3, 5 days a week.
